The Smith Family has been a staple in the Hoover community for over 20 years. Each sibling plays on a competitive basketball team. Known for their love of basketball, they have been helping improve basketball players in the city of Birmingham for several years. When your game needs ‘fixin’ call the Smiths!!!
Jason is the acting Director of J Smith Hoops. Jason graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in May 2007. After a standout career at Hoover High School, Jason also signed a basketball scholarship at UAH. Keeping the family tradition alive, Jason had a remarkable career at UAH where he was a 2 time All American. He is now embarking on a new stage of his basketball career. Jason is in his 8th year of professional basketball overseas. He has played in Czech Republic, Hungary, Ukraine, Portugal, Iceland and most recently Brazil. Jason is in his 3rd season in Brazil where he has been to the playoffs in both of his previous seasons.
His marketing strategies have made the J Smith Hoops camps grow over the last 15 years. Joe, Jason, and Jaime have started their own camp named J Smith All American Basketball Camp in which they co-direct. Jason is known for his unique way to relate to the campers while giving them the information to improve. The campers also enjoy Jason’s “long range shot”. Each camper can’t wait to see Jason shoot, as he has developed a knack for shooting and scoring several half court shots in a row!
Camp Coach/Camp Director
Jaime is a Graduate of Hoover High School and the Univ of Alabama Huntsville. He currently is playing in the top league in Europe. He had a standout career at Hoover High School and signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He had a stellar career and an impressive resume from UAH. In his junior season, Jaime helped lead his team to a record breaking season achieving the best record in school history. In Jaime’s UAH career, his team made a sweet 16 appearance and 2 (back to back) trips to the Elite 8. Jaime also was statistically the best 3 point shooter in the NATION. He led the nation in 3 pt percentage at 49% and finished 3rd in the nation in 3 pt made per game. He also set 2 new school records for 3 pointers made in a single season and 3 pointers made in a career. Jaime finished his college career with the most wins in school history along with 3 All American honors. He started his professional basketball career in Portugal and had an unbelievable year by leading his team to the best season in club history. Jaime had an outstanding season in Switzerland last season which earned him a contract in the highly respected Belgian League for this season.
Jaime is incredible with the kids at camp and has a true passion for sharing his knowledge of the game. He has also now been promoted to a Director role in the J Smith All American basketball camp. He is head of marketing in Huntsville and all private lessons. Jaime has great fundamentals and does a great job of transferring what he knows to the campers. His personality and his willingness to improve makes him an important part of this company.
Camp Coach/ Events Manager/ Events Director
Jordan currently works in the Pharmasuitical industry but still helps with several JSH events. Her camp experience and organizational skill are second to none. In high school, Jordan was the first of all the Smith’s to play varsity basketball as a freshmen and also the only Smith to win a state championship. Jordan signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She is the fourth Smith sibling to attend UAH on full scholarship. She was a 4 year starter for the Lady Chargers and had an outstanding career. She received all conference honors 3 out of her 4 years at UAH. As a Junior, Jordan led her team to win their first ever conference tournament championship in which she was awarded the most outstanding player. Jordan finished her career as the 2nd leading scorer in school history surpassing the 2000 point mark! Like her brothers, Jordan had the opportunity to play professionally. She suited up for Club Malvin (Uruguay) in the Fiba Das Americas tournament and played exceptional. Jordan has decided to retire from basketball and use all her knowledge and experience to help educate the youth.
Jordan has become a veteran camp worker and has been promoted to Asst Director for all J Smith Hoops events. Jordan helps with organizing, promoting and directing all of our events.
Camp Coach/ Camp Director
Jada is currently one of the top Players in the Gulf South Conference, playing for the prestigious Union University. Jada is a hard worker and is always improving her game everyday. Jada was part of the 2013 Hoover state championship team. She was named MVP her senior year and was one of the top scorers in the prestigious Alabama vs Mississippi All star game. Jada made it 5 for 5 full scholarships for the J Smith Hoops Team.
She has attended the Smokin’ Joe Smith Basketball Camp every year but has now graduated to being a camp coach. Jada is a camp coach but also has taken a leadership role in the company. She helps with branding ideas and assist in marketing. We are excited to see how she grows as a player. Jada has an incredible future ahead of her.

Joe and JoAnn Smith are the parents of the 5 Smith siblings that all received full basketball scholarships. They are the glue that holds everything together. They support their kids in any and everything that they do. This company is a direct reflection of how strong of an impact that the Smith parents have had on their kids. They have raised 5 respectable young men and women who have created a company to help the community. Thank you Joe and JoAnn!!!

Joe is the oldest of 5 Smith siblings in the Smith Family. He takes a lot of responsibility in setting a good example for all of his brothers and sisters. After being a standout basketball player at Hoover High School, Joe signed a scholarship to attend the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). After graduating with honors with an MIS/Business degree, Joe had an idea to create a family business that would help the community and involve everyone in his family. After careful planning, J Smith Hoops Inc. was created. While starting this business, he also embarked on a professional basketball career that would take him all over the world. After a short stint in Ventspills, Latvia, Joe has played in Europe for 8 years with 5 of them being in Italy. Joe speaks Italian fluently and was one of the only Americans to be named captain of an Italian first division team. After much success in Europe, Joe made his first appearance in South America where he played in Argentina. He led the league in scoring and received multiple accolades such as shooting guard of the year and first team all-league. Following his standout season in Argentina, he made his way to Brazil and put together yet another unbelievable season leading his team to win the prestigious Liga Das Americas championship. Joe completed three seasons in Brazil and has decided to retire from the game of basketball.
Joe worked his first basketball camp at age 16 and has continued to do so every summer since. After over 20 years of either working other camps or running his own basketball camps, Joe has taken his experience to create his own School of Basketball. J Smith Hoops Inc. is a combination of his experiences working camps, coaching, developing players and teaching his younger siblings. J Smith Hoops consists of basketball camps, private lessons, coaching, coaching development, player development, basketball career development and basketball camp consulting. “Having a company that involves my entire family is a dream come true.
